Ghana U20 head coach Desmond Ofei has expressed optimism about his team’s readiness for the upcoming 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship.
While he noted that preparations are not yet at the desired level, Ofei believes the Black Satellites are making progress ahead of the tournament scheduled for next month in Togo.
The team has been in camp for several weeks, working hard to replicate the success they achieved at the 2023 African Games in March.
“So preparation has been going on,” Ofei said, before adding, “We're not the best out there that we wanted, but we are growing. The team is growing gradually and I'm sure prior to the tournament it will get better.”
Ghana has been placed in Group A alongside Benin, Niger, and host nation Togo for the tournament, which will also serve as the qualifying event for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The draw for the qualifiers took place on September 26 in Côte d'Ivoire, and the Black Satellites are eager to make a return to the U20 Africa Cup of Nations after missing the previous edition in 2023.
