Ghana's all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan has responded to claims made by his former Black Stars teammate Kevin-Prince Boateng on an incident that happened at the 2014 World Cup.

The 37-year-old together with Kevin made coach Kwasi Appiah's final squad for the Mundial in Brazil and it was one of the best for the latter-who netted twice in that tourney to become Africa's all-time top scorer at the World Cup and still holds as of now.

The earlier claims are that, Kevin-Prince Boateng in a recent interview on Vibe and Five, spoke a lot about his career where he mentioned that, he was actually betrayed by his Black Stars teammates at the 2014 World Cup in the quest of fighting on their behalf.

He noted that, his actions was done mainly to seek justice for his teammates and that got him kicked out of the team's hotel prior to the final group game against Portugal but there was nothing from the players to express their support for him after his jettison.

Reacting to this as the captain of the team back then, the ex- Sunderland striker, said they tried many means to defend him behind the scenes but the coach had already made his decision and there was nothing they could have done to reverse that. He clarified in a post on Twitter;

"Kevin’s case happened at the training grounds between him and the coach in front of everybody.

“So that was the coach’s decision because the coach felt Kevin disrespected him several times with his choice of words. One thing Kevin didn’t know is we defended him behind the scenes several times.

“But on that day, the coach couldn’t take it anymore and reacted. That was the first time I saw Kwesi Appiah get angry and react.

“So Kevin’s case was the coach’s call. That’s the truth as the captain of the team", he concluded

Asamoah Gyan also called it a quit from football on June 20, 2023.
