Hearts of Oak board member, Alhaji Akambi has furiously reacted to GHALCA's decision to neglect them in this year's President's Cup despite being the reigning champions.

The 'Phobians' emerged champions of the last edition after narrowly defeating bitter rivals Asante Kotoko by 1-0 in Accra, thanks to a 56th minute header from Konadu Yiadom.

However, the Ghana League Clubs Association, have announced that, this year's edition will take a twist and won't be the usual Hearts-Kotoko which we've seen dominate this ceremonial game for the past years.

Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas this time, have been invited to play Asante Kotoko in this year's edition and GHALCA chairman Kudjoe Fianoo has stated the Hearts-Kotoko fixture has lacked enthusiasm for the past years reason they decided to go in for this fixture instead.

Reacting to this, Alhaji Akambi feels Hearts of Oak haven't being treated fairly and deserved to play one more this year since they are the current holders of the trophy.

He furthered on by saying he wouldn't have allowed the club partake in the President's Cup again if he had that final power. He told Mothers FM;

"How can you change the President’s Cup for Kotoko to play ASEC whiles we are the defending champions. Is it normal? GHALCA are the organizers and it is left to them to run it how they want it. We have nothing to do. If they have chosen Kotoko and ASEC then they should go and play.

“To be honest with you, If I alone have the audacity, trust me we will not play again. We will not play if I have the audacity."

The 2024 President Cup is scheduled for March 5, at the Baba Yara Stadium.
