The 2025 edition of the GHALCA ‘Top 4’ competition commences tomorrow, August 20, and will now be hosted at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon.

Initially, the iconic Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi was picked as the venue for the upcoming competition but has been changed now due to the current poor state of the facility.

However, Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) John Ansah subsequently confirmed the Ohene Gyan Stadium as the new venue but has been changed again despite being in a good state.

It has been confirmed that the venue is changed because the Accra Stadium is being preserved so it will be fit and ready to host the Black Stars for their crunchy 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali.

Speaking in an interview to clarify things, Administrative Manager for GHALCA, Oduro Nayeli expressed a huge disappointment towards the decision of the National Sports Authority to move the tournament to Legon

“We have been engaging the NSA from the very beginning, and they even gave us an official letter approving the Accra Sports Stadium for the Top 4 games. Out of the blue, my chairman informed me that the Director General of the NSA now says we cannot use the stadium because of the upcoming Black Stars game. Yet, the NSA was fully aware from the onset of Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Mali”

“At this point, we are left with no option but to comply. The positive side, however, is that the clubs have agreed to play the matches. That said, we are deeply disappointed in the NSA because this sudden change will affect us significantly. Accra would have been more accessible to fans compared to Legon, which could negatively impact attendance and ultimately reduce our financial returns, especially gate proceeds”

The GHALCA top four tournament is an off-season competition organized for the best performing clubs in the previous campaign to test their strength for the upcoming season.

This year’s edition will be competed by champions Bibiani GoldStars, Heart of Lions and the two giants; Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko Hearts.

The 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament will be held from August 20-24, 2025.
