Talented Ghanaian left-back plying his trade with Novi Pazar in Serbia Ebenezer Annan earned his debut for the Black Stars against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Otto Addo entrusted the 21-year-old with the opportunity to display his skills as Nigeria clinched a 2-1 victory against the Black Stars in an international friendly clash on Friday, March 22, 2024, in Marrakesh.

Introduced in the 46th minute, Ebenezer Annan and Tariq Lamptey replaced Patrick Kpozo and Baba Iddrisu, providing fresh energy to the Black Stars, who were trailing by a lone goal.

From the onset, Nigeria exhibited dominance, applying relentless pressure on the Black Stars. Ghana’s goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, showcased brilliance with a remarkable save, thwarting Nigeria’s early attempts to seize the lead.

In the second half, Ghana’s coach, Otto Addo, implemented tactical adjustments, leading to improved control and chances for the Black Stars. However, their momentum was disrupted by Jerome Opoku’s controversial red card for an alleged elbow, fiercely contested by Addo and Opoku.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Ghana maintained possession, but Nigeria capitalized on a counterattack, extending their lead with a clinical finish from Ademola Lookman.

Nevertheless, Ghana salvaged some pride with a late penalty converted by captain Jordan Ayew, marking his third consecutive goal from spot-kicks.

Looking ahead, Ghana aims to build on the positives from the match as they gear up for their upcoming friendly against Uganda on Tuesday.

The victory marks Nigeria’s first win over Ghana in 18 years, a moment celebrated by the Nigerian squad at the final whistle.
