The Black Queens of Ghana will welcome Zambia to the Ohene Gyan Stadium on Friday afternoon in the first leg of the final qualifying round of the 2024 Olympic Games.
The Queens last regrouped in December where they emerged victors over Namibia in two ties to secure qualification to the 2024 Women Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in five years.
Nora Hauptle and her girls have been in camp for few days now and are hoping to secure Olympic football for the country since 2004.
Notable players like captain Portia Boakye, Evelyn Badu, Doris Boaduwaa, Grace Asantewaa and others are present in camp looking very poised for action. Charlton Athletic midfielder Freda Ayisi has also joined the team and is hoping to finally make her debut for Ghana.
The Black Queens have been highly motivated coming into this fixture after having all their bonus arrears settled and will definitely play their hearts for a win this time.
Speaking ahead of the game, Black Queens gaffer Nora Hauptle admitted they are coming up against a very strong opposition today and has called on Ghanaians to come in numbers to cheer and rally behind the team for victory.
"We need the support, we need togetherness, everybody here in Ghana, the spectators, footballers, coaches. Let’s come together and let’s have a big football party tomorrow."
"Zambia is a big opponent. They have been in the World Cup. They played 21 games last year. They have good individual players so I think it’s a must-win and we want to win."
The Copper Queens of Zambia also landed in the country last Wednesday evening with full squad including skipper and stargirl Barbara Banda- who finished second at the last CAF football awards.
The game is slated for 17:00GMT (5:00pm)
