Chris Hughton, the newly appointed head coach of the Black Stars, has made it clear that he cannot promise to lead the team to win trophies, despite signing a year-and-a-half deal as the head coach.
The Ghanaian national team has struggled to win any significant trophies in the past four decades, with their last trophy being won in 1982.
During his unveiling in Kumasi, Hughton, who previously managed Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, refused to guarantee that he could end the team's 40-year trophy drought.
He emphasized that no coach could guarantee a trophy, and that it all started with qualifications.
"No coach can guarantee a trophy. No coach can sit at a table like this and guarantee you that. No single coach can do that," he said during his unveiling.
"It starts with qualifications and you can know what you can do but no coach can guarantee a trophy," he added.
Hughton's first game in charge will be a back-to-back qualifier against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, with Ghana hosting the Palancas Negras at the Baba Yara Stadium on March 23 and travelling to Luanda for the reserve game four days later.
He will be supported by assistant coaches Didi Dramani and George Boateng.
George Boateng and Mas Ud Didi Dramani, the current assistant coaches of the Black Stars, have signed contracts that will keep them with the national team until December 2024. They will be working together with newly-appointed coach Chris Hughton as part of the technical team.
