After a break for the quarterfinals of the MTN FA Cup, the betPawa Premier League is set to resume this weekend. While rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and defending champions Asante Kotoko were engaged in friendly matches over the weekend, they will return to league action soon.
In the previous rounds of the MTN FA Cup, Accra Hearts of Oak was eliminated by Dreams FC in the Round of 32, while Asante Kotoko exited in the Round of 16 after a 1-0 loss to Aduana FC.
Asante Kotoko will face former champions Chelsea at the Golden City Park in Berekum in their next league match. Their last meeting ended with Asante Kotoko defeating Berekum Chelsea 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with Serge Eric Zeze and Steven Mukwala Desse scoring for Asante Kotoko, and Emmanuel Sarpong scoring for Berekum Chelsea.
Berekum Chelsea is currently in the eighth position on the league table with 35 points after match day 25, having won only one of their last five matches and drawing three, with one defeat in the process. Asante Kotoko has won two, drawn two, and lost one of their last five matches and sits in the fourth spot in the League table with 39 points, five points behind league leaders Aduana FC, who have 44 points.
Asante Kotoko has a four-point advantage over Berekum Chelsea going into the match, having won two, drawn two, and lost one in their last five matches against Chelsea. Captain Zackaria Fuseini's return will boost Chelsea, with Flavien Kongoza, Collins Ameyaw, Edwin Kuffuor Asamoah, Henry Ansu, and Stephen Amankona aiming to make an impact when called upon.
Asante Kotoko coach Abdullai Gazale is expected to provide options for the team with Steven Mukwala Desse, Augustine Agyapong, Mohammed Alhassan and Matheus Medeiros De Souza.
