Accra Lions FC triumphed over Medeama SC with a slim 1-0 win earlier this mid-afternoon at the University of Ghana Stadium in match-day 18 opener of the Ghana Premier League.
It was really an open game game between both teams especially in the early stages of the game with Medeama SC on top in terms of dominance but to no avail.
The Mauves and Yellows subsequently made series of attacks from their flanks and sent in crosses but most were checked by the the homesters.
With three minutes to half-time, Ahmed Yousif was put through and floored goalkeeper Felix Kyei but fired wide for a restart.
In the second half, Accra Lions bounced back on a higher note and this time created series of chances but still couldn't make it count.
The homesters were handed a penalty in the 71st minute after Ahmed Yousif's cross went off the hand of an opposing player for a penalty. Lucky Nwafor stepped up and converted to open the scoring account.
The travellers drove more men forward in the closing moment of the game but all their efforts proved futile as it finished 1-0 after full time.
Accra Lions FC will visit Vision FC next while Medeama SC will host Legon Cities FC in Tarkwa.
