Bechem United brought their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign to a winning close with a narrow but hard-fought 1–0 victory over Young Apostles at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on the final day of the season.
In a tightly contested Bono and Ahafo derby that marked Young Apostles’ final top-flight game of their debut season, it was the Hunters who had the final say, thanks to a second-half strike from defender Baba Abdulai.
The encounter began with a charged atmosphere, fueled by regional neighbours rivalry and the season's emotional finale.
Bechem United, determined to close their campaign on a positive note, started brighter. Their efforts paid off in the 62nd minute when the Hunter were awarded a penalty which Abdulai slotted the spot kick past the very confident Apostles goalkeeper Zulka Masawudu.
Young Apostles pushed for an equalizer in the latter stage of the second half, with their midfielder troops Maftaw and Prempeh coming close, forcing a sharp save from Bechem keeper Benjamin Asiedu late on.
But Bechem United stood firm, defending resolutely to preserve their lead and secure all three points in front of an appreciative home crowd.
The result sees Bechem United finish in 9th with 47 points, ending an inconsistent season with a home win. For Young Apostles, the loss cements a tough maiden Premier League journey that ends in 14th placed on 40 points with lessons learned and eyes on the next league season.
