However, their momentum was halted late in the game when Kyere sustained an injury, leaving them with ten men as coach Frimpong Manso had already used all his substitutions.
Karela United capitalized on their numerical advantage, striking in stoppage time to secure a vital point at home.
The draw leaves Gold Stars level on 24 points with Heart of Lions, who edge them out of the top spot on goal difference. Meanwhile, Karela United remain in 15th place with 13 points, still battling to escape the relegation zone.
Gold Stars will aim to bounce back when they host Nsoatreman in their next fixture, while Karela United face a tough away test against Medeama SC.
