Gold Stars suffered their second defeat with a 2-0 matchday 15 Premier League loss to Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday night football.
Justice Blay scored the opener in the first half through a spot-kick after a pair of defensive disasters from the Gye Nyame Boys allowed the Porcupine Warriors captain to notch before Kwame Poku added the second on the night to propel Prosper Ogum’s men to a two-nil victory.
The Gye Nyame showed that they had not learned their lessons from March’s 1-0 inflicted defeat to Kotoko.
Forwards Ronald Frimpong and Charles Gyamf’s partnership to cut the scoreline in half did not materialized as the defense of their hosts led by Joseph Ablorh held them strongly at bay.
However, a strike could not inspire a late resurgence from Gold Stars, whose defeat could be chalked up to individual errors rather than a collectively poor team display, but the end result is the same; falling to 3rd place in the Premier League table and three points off the top spot.
Meanwhile, Kotoko - who have now beaten both Hearts of Oak and last season champions’ Samartex at home this term - sit in second, just three points below top dwelling Heart of Lions as their dream 2024-25 continues.
