Medeama SC return to the TNA Stadium for the first time since 2019 when they host Accra Lions FC in their season opener of the 2024/25 football season on Sunday, September 8.
This happens to be their original grounds but had to adopt the Akoon Park five years ago after the venue was demolished to be rebuilt again and is currently part of the top-notch facilities in the country with over 10,000 capacity.
The Lions recorded a better head in this fixture last season having secured a vital draw in Tarkwa and won the return leg by 1-0 and will hope to replicate the same performance in the new campaign.
MATCH PREVIEW
The Mauves and Yellows started their preseason with a 2-1 win over Asante Kotoko to inaugurate their new stadium, thanks to a late winner from Maxwell Cudjoe.
Fast-forward, in the GHALCA top four tournament which finished few weeks ago, Medeama SC finished second with six points having lost against Bechem United in their opening game but redeemed themselves with victories over Nations FC and Eleven Wise subsequently.
The 2023 champions also engaged in the maiden Apinto Memorial Cup but lost it to regional rivals Basake Holy Stars on penalties.
Accra Lions after finishing second last season, will definitely have their sights set on nothing but the ultimate and their quest to that begins with a visit to the former champions.
The Blue-Blacks also warmed themselves up with some friendlies including a 1-0 win over first division side PAC Academy and are looking very ready for the new season.
TEAM NEWS
Medeama SC lost the service of key figures like Fatawu Hamidu, Kofi Asmah and others but have still got majority of their squad available.
Bosnian tactician Nebojsa Kapor together with his technical Director Augustine Evans Adotey, working together will definitely make two-time FA Cup champions a force to reckon with this season.
However, Accra Lions are also without integral members from last season like skipper Shawkan Mohammed, Yahaya Mohammed and have replaced them with numerous captures including Nigerian international Chinecherem Lucky Nwafor.
