Medeama SC will wrap up their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign with a home clash against Berekum Chelsea on Sunday, June 8, at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium.
The Mauve and Yellow will look to end the season in style in front of their fans, while Berekum Chelsea seek to avoid a fifth straight defeat.
Match Preview
Medeama SC, who currently sit 7th on the league table with 50 points, have had a mixed run of form in their last five matches—winning three and losing two. Despite inconsistency away from home, their form in Tarkwa has been exceptional.
The 2022/23 champions are statistically the second-best home side in the league this season. They have won each of their last five home matches, scoring an impressive 15 goals and conceding just two in that period. Head coach Ibrahim Tanko will aim to extend that dominant home run with another strong showing on Sunday.
Berekum Chelsea, in contrast, are enduring a torrid end to their campaign. They have suffered 14 defeats in the league—fourth-most in the division—and come into this game on the back of four losses in their last five matches. They currently sit 12th with 41 points, having scored 33 goals and conceded 34.
Under the guidance of Samuel Boadu, Chelsea have been poor travellers this season with just two wins from 16 away games (W2, D3, L11). A result in Tarkwa would be a much-needed confidence boost ahead of what’s expected to be a busy off-season.
Historically, Medeama and Berekum Chelsea have met four times in Tarkwa since the 2020/21 season. Medeama have won twice, drawn once, and lost once in those meetings. Last season, however, Chelsea pulled off a rare 1-0 win in Tarkwa.
Team News
Medeama are expected to maintain their core squad that has performed strongly at home. The likes of Kelvin Andoh and Prince Opoku Agyemang will be crucial in attack, while goalkeeper Felix Kyei and defender Sulemana provide stability at the back.
Berekum Chelsea will rely on captain Fuseini, exciting youngster Kwesi Badori, and former Kotoko midfielder Hubert Gyau to inspire a turnaround. Coach Boadu is expected to stick with his preferred XI despite recent poor results.
