Asante Kotoko will be out to get their season back on track when they welcome struggling Berekum Chelsea to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon for a Matchweek 18 encounter in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

Kick-off for this crunch face-off is scheduled for 15:30, with the Porcupine Warriors aiming to bounce back in front of their home fans after last weekend’s disappointment on the road.

Match Preview

Asante Kotoko enter this fixture looking to respond positively to a 2-1 away defeat against Swedru All Blacks, a result that briefly stalled their push at the top end of the table. The Porcupine Warriors have managed three wins, one draw and three defeats across their last seven league matches, showing signs of quality but lacking consistency.

After 17 rounds, Kotoko sit third on the league log with 30 points, having recorded eight wins, six draws and three defeats. A victory on Sunday would help them maintain contact with the league’s leading pack and restore confidence ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.

Berekum Chelsea, meanwhile, continue to endure a difficult campaign. The Bibires find themselves 16th on the table with 18 points, following a return of five wins, three draws and nine defeats from their opening 17 matches. Their struggles at both ends of the pitch have left them hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Chelsea will travel to Kumasi knowing the odds are stacked against them, but they will be desperate to frustrate Kum-Apem and possibly snatch a valuable result to ease their survival worries.

Team News

Asante Kotoko

Kotoko are expected to have the bulk of their squad available for selection, with the technical team likely to ring a few changes following last weekend’s setback. Captain Ndongani Samba Gilbani is set to guard the defence once again, while Guinean striker Morifing Donzo will lead the line as the Porcupines look to be more clinical in front of goal. The midfield trio of Hubert Gyau, Seth Kwadwo and Lord Hilary Adabo should provide balance and control in the middle of the park.

Berekum Chelsea

Berekum Chelsea are likely to stick with their preferred 3-4-2-1 lineup as they seek defensive solidity away from home. Skipper Prince Anane is expected to anchor the backline, while goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi could be called upon frequently. In attack, Marvin Owusu and Faisal Shaibu will shoulder the responsibility of troubling the Kotoko defence on the counter.

Possible Starting Lineups

Asante Kotoko

Mohammed Camara (GK); Henry Ansu, Ndongani Samba Gilbani (C), Lord Amoah; Hubert Gyau, Seth Kwadwo, Lord Hilary Adabo; Zackaria Fuseini (defender), Philip Amoh (midfielder), Morifing Donzo, Peter Amidu Acquah.

Berekum Chelsea

Eric Ofori Antwi (GK); Benjamin Abaidoo, Prince Anane (C), Mohammed Seidu; Kuffour Asamoah, Kwesi Badori, Vincent Adjei, Augustine Agyapong; Marvin Owusu, Faisal Shaibu; Abdul Rahman.

Prediction

We say: Asante Kotoko 2-0 Berekum Chelsea

With home advantage, well-stocked squad and greater attacking threat, Asante Kotoko should have enough to see off a Berekum Chelsea side that has struggled on the road this season. The Porcupine Warriors are likely to dominate possession and create the clearer chances, with Morifing Donzo expected to get on the scoresheet, while  Philip Amoh could add a second as Kotoko claim a comfortable home win.
