Asante Kotoko worked hard to earn a point at Dun’s Park after being held to a tough 0–0 draw by Bibiani Goldstars in an exciting Matchweek 19 Ghana Premier League game that was enjoyed by fans who like good passing and tactical play.
Abdul Karim Zito’s team controlled most of the match and looked the better side, but their usual problems in front of goal continued, with several good chances wasted as shots went over the bar.
Even though they were playing at home, Bibiani Goldstars spent much of the match without the ball and ended with 44% possession. Still, the Miners showed effort, taking seven shots, three of them on target and troubling Kotoko goalkeeper Camara. They also won three corners and picked up three yellow cards.
Kotoko, however, had more of the ball with 56% possession and created more chances, taking eight shots, four on target and winning 11 corners. This showed how much pressure they put on Goldstars. Most of their attacks came from the left side, where they kept creating shooting chances and forced Goldstars to defend for long periods.
In the end, neither team could score the winning goal in a match marked by good skill and strong defending.
Although Kotoko will be disappointed about the chances they missed, Zito could still take many positives as his team played well from start to finish as they recorded a second draw in seven matches and showed better control and teamwork.
