Hearts of Oak have played out a pulsating goalless draw against Hohoe United in a very fascinating opening game of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
It was really a good start for the two sides, while Hearts of Oak focused on possession in the early stages, Hohoe United made their early goal intentions very clear.
The visitors came close to opening the scoring account in the 22nd minute after captain Safian Usman found Kwadwo Boamah on the right flanks but his effort went wide. Few minutes later, he set up Abass Ganiu in the box but the latter had his brave header tipped off brilliantly by Benjamin Asare to a wasted corner kick.
Hearts of Oak also came close in some few occasions but couldn’t make good use of them after Hussein Mohammed missed at a close range and also Amankwah Baafi failing to score from a free-kick at a very good position as it finished goalless at half-time.
Back from recess, both teams bounced back on a higher note especially the host who had few goal attempts but couldn’t make it count.
Hohoe United were reduced to ten men in the 68th minute after Solomon Adomako was booked for the second time after a reckless tackle.
In the 79th minute, the Rainbow Club kept on with the incursion after Ransford Mensah put in a deep cross from the left but was well-collected in the air by goalkeeper Kweku Ansah.
Kelvin Osei Asibey was served with a very good ball in the box by Abdul Karim but the former headed wide. That was a big chance but failed to make it count
Hearts of Oak will travel to Dreams FC while Hohoe United will play at home in the topflight for the first time against Young Apostles in the second round of matches.
