Two late goals from Benedict Afful and Clinton Kumi secured FC Samartex 1996 a hard-fought 2–0 win over Hohoe United at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena on Sunday, maintaining their unbeaten start to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign.
The game was finely balanced for much of the contest, with both teams showing strong defensive organization but lacking cutting edge in the final third. Hohoe United, playing with confidence despite being newcomers, matched Samartex’s intensity and limited their hosts to few clear chances.
However, the breakthrough finally came in the 88th minute when Benedict Afful latched onto a loose ball inside the box and coolly slotted past the goalkeeper to put the Timber Giants ahead. Just moments later, Clinton Kumi doubled the lead in stoppage time, finishing off a swift counterattack to seal all three points for the home side.
The result extends Samartex’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to seven matches and moves them up to fourth place on the table. Their impressive form continues to highlight their defensive discipline and ability to deliver late when it matters most.
Hohoe United, meanwhile, will take lessons from the defeat as they return home to prepare for their next fixture against Swedru All Blacks, aiming to bounce back from consecutive losses.
