The title race is tantalisingly in the balance between Aduana Stars and Kotoko, the battle for a top four is becoming crowded while at the bottom of the table, Tamale City and Kotoku Royals are jostling for a place outside of the relegation zone
Kickgh.com provides 4 things to watch out for this weekend.
Bechem United host Aduana Stars in battle for title
Sunday's 3pm kick-off is arguably the most exciting of the weekend as league leaders Aduana Stars travel to Nana Gyeabour Park to face a third-placed side Bechem United knocking on the door of the top spot, and with it, winning the championship.
Paa Kwesi Fabin’s men enter the clash in first, 5 points ahead of Kassim Mingle’s bechem United side. A win for the Hunters could closing the gap between them and their guests to 2 points.
While, Aduana Stars would need the maximum points to strengthen and solidify their position at the top. Regardless, it is sure to be a fascinating matchup between the two sides, both on the pitch and the touchline.
Bibiani Goldstars prove tough nut to crack
Goldstars have been one of the biggest surprises in the league this season. Tipped by many for relegation, they have instead ground out a number of memorable results and started this term with a bang, picking up 26 points from a possible 48 and defeating RTU in Tamale drawing with Kotoko and Olympics during that run and are currently placed fourth.
When they've needed to, the Miners have been content to frustrate more illustrious opponents, as goalless draws against Kotoko and Olympics show. Their upward trajectory under Michael Osei means they are currently scaling the heady heights, but it will not be so easy to be defensively obdurate against an improved Accra Lions side who got battered by Kotoko last Monday. Both clubs are level on points but the Miners have a superior goal difference.
Hearts’ frailties highlighted again
The Phobians’ hopes of qualifying for Africa are in tatters. After being by Legon Cities, Hearts capitulated against RTU last Sunday.
Hearts’ next league assignment is a game with Berekum Chelsea at the Accra Sports stadium. Slavko Matic is expected to have a full house with the return of Konadu Yiadom, Seidu Suraj, Gladson Awako and Dennis Korsah.
The aforementioned players have been unavailable in the Phobians’ recent games due to their engagement with the Black Galaxies.
The Phobians will need to win this game to appease their fans and keep the chase on Aduana Stars but it won’t come easy as Berekum Chelsea have the quality to cause an upset in Accra. Should that happen, Matic could face the wrath of the Hearts hierarchy.
Will Kotoku Royals’ away form continue?
A trip to Anyinase, battling fiercely to maintain their Premier League status, is a tricky match for any side but for Kotoku Royals, it could be that bit harder.
Their away form has become a real problem for John Eduafo and his charges. Bismark Kobi Mensah will be relishing the opportunity to take advantage of any uncertainty. Karela are currently two points away from safety so have no option but to go for the jugular.
