The Adrar Stadium in Agadir will host one of the biggest games of the AFCON 2025 group stage on Friday afternoon, as Egypt take on South Africa in a key Group B match with first place and an early ticket to the last 16 up for grabs.
Both teams started the tournament with 2–1 wins, with Egypt beating Zimbabwe and South Africa defeating Angola, setting up a matchup that is competitive and full of tension.
Match Preview
With star forward Mohamed Salah leading the way, Egypt come into the game confident and determined as Hossam Hassan’s team look to prove why they are seen as one of the favourites. The Pharaohs rely on experience, high energy and fast attacking play from the start, a style that has often caused problems for South Africa in past meetings.
Egypt are also motivated by the memory of 2019, when South Africa knocked them out at home. The seven-time champions will try to control the game, win the midfield battles and set the pace from the beginning.
South Africa arrive in Agadir full of belief under coach Hugo Broos. With goalkeeper Ronwen Williams providing calm at the back and Lyle Foster leading the attack, Bafana Bafana have become a strong, organised team that can defend well and break forward quickly.
Recent results give them confidence as South Africa have not lost to Egypt since 2010 and have the better record in recent meetings. With energy on their side, Broos’ team will once again look to prove themselves in what is expected to be a tight clash.
