Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has described captain Samba O’Neil as “exceptional” and disclosed that he has already begun trying to convince the Congolese defender to switch nationality and commit his international future to Ghana.
Zito, who has overseen a revival in Kotoko’s defensive stability this season, admitted he sees qualities in O’Neil that would make him an asset to the Black Stars set-up.
“Samba O’Neil is exceptional and I’ve started trying to convince him to switch nationality to Ghana,” Zito said.
Zito's remarks have sparked debate among local fans, many of whom believe Ghana already boasts several in-form centre-backs performing consistently in the Ghana Premier League.
O’Neil’s commanding presence and calm authority at Kotoko would undoubtedly draw the attention of coach Otto Addo.
