The former Dreams FC attacker is on the verge of departing the Kumasi-based outfit after just two months of his acquisition on a free transfer, Kickgh.com can exclusively report.
Ghana Premier League heavyweights Asante Kotoko are considering abrogating the contract of Johnson Owusu Oppong following his poor performances during the club's pre-season scrimmages.
Kickgh.com understands that the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Asante Kotoko is disappointed with Owusu Oppong's output and could terminate his contract in the coming days.
Head coach Abdul Karim Zito and his technical team have also been fingered by the management for recommending the capture of unfit players, including Johnson Owusu Oppong and two defenders.
Owusu Oppong joined the Porcupine Warriors in June on a two-year contract with a wealth of experience across Ghana and Europe. However, he has been struggling for playing time in Asante Kotoko's pre-season matches after making his debut against Kaizer Chiefs in the 2025 Toyota Cup.
He played only one game against Heart of Lions in the just-ended 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament and was excluded from the matchday squad for the Hearts of Oak showdown.
With the transfer window to be closed on August 31, Asante Kotoko are weighing options for the signing of former Ghana U20 star Ibrahim Sulley and Walid Fuseini, formerly of Nsoatreman FC, to bolster their attacking options.

The signing of the above-mentioned duo has become a key factor for the club after Owusu Oppong had underperformed in the pre-season matches.
The 27-year-old enjoyed successful spells with Dreams FC, where he featured prominently in their historic run to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final.
Owusu Oppong accumulated valuable experience abroad, including four seasons with C.S. Marítimo in Portugal, a year with FC Zlín in the Czech Republic, and another campaign with KF Kukësi in Albania.
The Porcupine Warriors are currently preparing for the 2025–26 season's campaign as they make a return to the CAF Confederation Cup after a two-year absence from continental football, and they've been paired with Nigerian side Kwara United in the preliminary round.
Asante Kotoko will play Bibiani Goldstars on August 31st, 2025, at Dun's Park for the ‘Champion of Champions’ title before they open their Premier League season's campaign with a trip to Berekum to face Berekum Chelsea.
