The Porcupine Warriors' last season top scorer was rushed to a health facility in Accra on Friday.
Asante Kotoko attacker Franck Mbella Etouga was rushed to a hospital in the nation's capital when the club thumped lower-tier side Ghana Army FC 4-0 in a pre-season friendly.
The Cameroonian international has not been involved in Asante Kotoko's pre-season games due to his health condition.
His absence after two pre-season friendlies — against Panthers FC and Ghana Army FC — has raised concerns among the supporters of Asante Kotoko over his future at the club since he has been linked with a move away from the Kumasi-based club.
However, the first vice chairman of Kotoko’s National Circles Council, Nana Kwame Dankwah, has quashed reports in the media suggesting that Franck Mbella Etouga may leave and further explained the situation.
“Mbella Etouga and Mfegue are still at the club and part of the team for the new season. They did not dress in the game against Panthers FC but Mfegue dressed just that the coach opted to rest him,” Dankwah said during a Twitter Space on Saturday morning, quoted by Ashesgyamera.com
“In the game against Army FC, I arrived at the venue late and when I asked of Mbella, I was told he has been sent to the hospital in a car. He was not feeling well that is why he did not play in that game,” he added.
Mbella Etouga has an incredible debut season at Asante Kotoko after netting 21 goals in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.
Asante Kotoko are currently preparing for the 2022/23 season and they will be leaving the shores of Ghana this weekend for a pre-season friendly against Al Hilal in Sudan.
Kotoko were billed to travel to Turkey for a two-week pre-season tour but it has been suspended due to visa application issues.
Asante Kotoko will compete in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League and will begin their campaign with RC Kadiogo of Burkina Faso in the first preliminary round next month.
