Former Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has released his Team of the Week for Matchday 1 of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, with standout performers from across the country making the cut.
The XI, set up in a 1-3-4-3 formation, is dominated by players from Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, who both impressed on the opening weekend of the campaign.
Vision FC goalkeeper Kwame Aziz was chosen between the sticks after an excellent display, anchoring the team with his commanding presence.
In defence, Faisal Gariba (Karela United), Ali Mohammed (Hearts of Oak), and Samba O’niel (Asante Kotoko) formed the back three, with their solid performances helping their sides avoid defeat.
The midfield four saw Emmanuel Antwi (Asante Kotoko), Usman Safianu (Hohoe United), Abdul Karim (Hearts of Oak), and Daniel Osafo (Hohoe United) earning spots for their creativity, ball control, and work rate.
Up front, the attacking trio of Emmanuel Annor (Nations FC), Samuel Attah Kumi (Goldstars), and Albert Amoah (Asante Kotoko) was picked after inspiring performances. Amoah, in particular, was the hero for Kotoko, scoring the only goal in their historic 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea to end a 15-year winless run at the Golden City Park.
The team was guided by Coach Abdul Karim Zito, who masterminded Asante Kotoko’s important away victory, further underlining his tactical acumen.
Dauda’s selection highlights a blend of youth and experience, with newcomers like Hohoe United’s Safianu and Osafo rubbing shoulders with established stars such as Amoah and Annor.
The unveiling of the Team of the Week has already sparked debates among fans, with many hailing Amoah’s inclusion as well-deserved, while others argue that more room should have been made for standout performers from debuting clubs.
The Ghana Premier League continues this weekend with Matchday 2 fixtures, as players look to maintain their form and push for inclusion in the next Team of the Week.
