Asante Kotoko defender Esmat Abdalhamid Hassabalbagi is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after undergoing successful foot surgery following an injury sustained during the club's recent Ghana Premier League match against Young Apostles.

The Sudanese left-back, who has been a key player in Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum's lineup for the first two games of the season, initially suffered what appeared to be a minor knock.

However, upon further assessments conducted by the club’s medical team in Kumasi, it was determined that surgery was necessary.

The operation was performed on September 27, 2024, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital under the care of expert surgeons. Esmat is expected to be out for at least six weeks as he recovers.

Asante Kotoko, preparing for their matchweek 4 fixture against Berekum Chelsea at Golden City Park on Sunday, will have to navigate the coming weeks without their regular left-back, aiming to maintain their solid start to the season in his absence.
