The members of the Black Meteors squad have made a collective contribution of GHC13,000 to assist the ailing goalkeeper, William Essu.

William Essu, a former goalkeeper for Legon Cities, has been dealing with a serious illness, which became widely known following the passing of his former teammate, Sylvester Sackey.

The goalkeeper's appeal for assistance in recovering his bonus, conveyed in a letter to the Black Meteors' head coach, Ibrahim Tanko, had gone viral.

Upon learning of Essu's illness, the players reportedly rallied together to support their teammate in seeking medical care by donating the aforementioned sum to him.

Furthermore, the Ghana Football Association Foundation contributed GHC10,000 to assist the goalkeeper, while the Nicholas Opoku Foundation also extended help to the former Vision FC shot-stopper.

The Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG) also paid a visit to the player once his situation became public.

William Essu was part of the Black Meteors squad that competed against Algeria in the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa U23 Cup of Nations.
