Ghana Premier League heavyweights Asante Kotoko have officially announced the contract termination of Prosper Narteh Ogum as the club's head coach following the recent poor performances.
The club, in a statement on Monday, April 21, 2025, confirmed the decision to relieve the 47-year-old tactician from his role at the club after back-to-back defeats—3-0 loss to Accra and 2-0 defeat to Nations FC—in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.
The club's official statement reads: “Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has this afternoon parted company with Head Coach Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum.”
“This decision was reached following constructive discussions between both parties, with a shared understanding that it is in the best interest of the club at this time.”
“We thank Coach Ogum for his dedication and service to the club, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
“We urge our supporters to remain calm and continue to support the club during this transition. Further updates will be communicated in due course.”
Before the start of the 2023/24 season's campaign, Narteh Ogum returned to Asante Kotoko to lead the club's technical team, having guided the team to clinch the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title.
His return to the Porcupine Warriors has been unsuccessful after missing out on last season's title, finishing in sixth position with 49 points.
The club's Interim Management Committee (IMC) decided against retaining the former WAFA and Ebusua Dwarfs gaffer after a crunchy meeting this afternoon in Kumasi.
Ogum's second coming turns disastrous return
Despite the team's strong start to the season, Asante Kotoko have been unable to replicate their early momentum, leading to their fall from the top of the league table to fourth position.
Ogum, who guided the Porcupine Warriors to the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title, leaves behind a mixed legacy. His first stint brought an end to Kotoko’s long title drought and was hailed as a major achievement.
However, recent performances have cast a shadow over his return, with the team failing to maintain consistency in the ongoing campaign.
A poor run of results, including back-to-back defeats against Accra Lions and Nations FC, intensified speculation around Ogum’s future.
In 28 league matches this season under Ogum, Kotoko recorded 13 wins, 8 draws, and 7 defeats, scoring 28 goals and conceding 21, with an average of 1.68 points per game.
The club expressed its appreciation to Coach Ogum for his commitment and service, and extended its best wishes for his future endeavors.
Kotoko also called on supporters to stay calm and united as the club enters a new phase, promising to provide updates on the technical direction in due course.
The Porcupine Warriors will next take on Aduana Stars in a crucial Ghana Premier League fixture next weekend.
Asante Kotoko is expected to announce a new head coach in the coming days.
