Asante Kotoko has been left in shock by the sudden resignation of assistant coach Marvin David Ocloo, who stepped down from his position just ahead of the team's crucial Super Clash against Hearts of Oak.

The Porcupine Warriors were preparing for the highly anticipated match against their arch-rivals on Sunday, but Ocloo was noticeably absent from the coaching setup when the team took to the field.

While the reasons behind Ocloo’s resignation remain unclear, his departure marks the end of his tenure with the club.

This leaves Kotoko to navigate the high-stakes encounter without his expertise, and the team will now have to regroup and focus on their goal of finishing strong in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.

Ocloo had rejoined Kotoko before the start of the 2023/24 season, serving as an assistant to head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum. This was after he had already been part of the coaching staff during the 2021/22 season, where Kotoko won the Ghana Premier League title.

Having been a significant contributor to the team’s tactical strategies and overall development, Ocloo's resignation creates a leadership gap within the coaching staff. It remains to be seen how the club will respond to this unexpected change.

On Sunday, despite Ocloo's absence, Asante Kotoko secured a dramatic 1-0 win over Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium, with Albert Amoah’s last-minute goal sealing the victory.

The win has propelled Kotoko to 6th position with 21 points, and they will next face Dreams FC in the Matchday 14 fixture at the Tuba AstroTurf.
