Ghana's all time leading scorer Asamoah Gyan has stated that he was ordered by doctors to take time off football after having a medical evaluation for stress.

The 36-year-old, who is currently training and hoping to have his last samba with the Ghana national team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, consulted a doctor after sustaining incessant injuries and, although no underlying problem was discovered, he was ordered to rest.

Gyan said: “When I was at Legon Cities, I was battling with injuries. Anytime I am in form and I tell my people this week I feel good and I am going to score then I get injured then I go back for another two months," Gyan told Dentaa Akosua Amoateng.

Gyan added: “I went for check ups and the doctor said my muscles are tired. So I needed a long break to make sure everything heals because it looked like my body was stressed, the body was tired.”

The legendary Ghanaian marksman has not featured for any club competitively since calling it quits with Legon Cities in April 2021.
