Board Chairman of Medeama SC, Dr. Tony Aubynn has stated they are hopeful of finally having their hands on the GPL trophy this Sunday but ended up cautioning their players not to be complacent heading into the game.
With 57 points at the summit of the league on the back of the final fixtures, the Mauves and Yellows are just a win or draw away from emerging as Ghanaian champions for the first time in their history as they face Tamale City FC next.
However, a defeat could be a disaster in Tarkwa as if that happens and Bechem United win at Aduana Stars, they will be crowned winners.
With this, the GFA EXCO member has warned the players not to underestimate their opponent and think they have accomplished the mission already but should deploy a cautious approach for the game.
He added by lauding coach Evans Adotey for his massive impact since taking over the club.
"By and large, Coach Evans Addotey has stabilized the fort since he came. We have seen the pattern of play that Medeama SC is displaying these days, so thanks and congrats to him."
"While we are very hopeful of winning, we are cautious not to be complacent. We need to win or at worst, draw, to lift the trophy for the first time."
The game between Medeama SC and Tamale City is slated for 1500GMT at the Akoon Community Park on Sunday, June 11, 2023.
