The Ghana Premier League's current state has faced a range of criticisms, with issues such as player quality, television coverage, coaching, and various other aspects drawing significant negative attention.

One individual who has experienced the local football scene is former Black Stars defender Jerry Akaminko.

Having once played for Heart of Lions, he holds the view that while the league indeed requires improvement, it's essential not to compare the players of today to those from earlier times.

Akaminko stated, “I don’t think if you compare that way it will work, it won’t work because obviously the sort of players that were playing in the league at that time compared to now, there is a huge difference.

He further explained, “The maturity of the players then and now, obviously young players. But now they are playing at their capacity or level of whatever they will be.

Akaminko stressed the need for continuous improvement, saying, “But I think there should be more room for improvement, We should try to get the league to a certain standard, like we will prepare the players to play in ant standard or level.” Jerry Akaminko told Radio Gold Sports.
