Ghana Premier League giants Accra Hearts of Oak are close to securing the signature of former Ghana international midfielder Mubarak Wakaso, according to reports in the local media.

The 34-year-old is expected to join the Phobians on a short-term contract as the club strengthens its squad for the second half of the ongoing season.

Renowned for his tenacity, tactical intelligence, and exceptional passing ability, Wakaso has been without a club since parting ways with Chinese Super League side Shenzhen FC in January 2024.

Before his departure, Wakaso briefly returned to Shenzhen following a loan spell at Belgian side KAS Eupen, where he featured in 10 matches across all competitions.

With extensive experience at top European clubs, including Villarreal, Espanyol, Celtic FC, and Deportivo Alaves, Wakaso's arrival is anticipated to provide a boost in quality and leadership for the Hearts squad.

In addition to his club career, Wakaso boasts an illustrious international resume, having represented Ghana in multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He has earned 70 caps for the Black Stars, scoring 13 goals since his debut on October 13, 2012.

If finalized, Wakaso's signing could prove pivotal in Hearts of Oak's quest for the league title and a strong finish this season.
