Samuel Boadu kicked off his tenure as head coach of Berekum Chelsea with a triumph as they clinched a 1-0 victory over rivals Aduana Stars in the Bono derby on Wednesday afternoon.
Boadu, overseeing his first match from the dugout, guided the Bibires to a narrow win over Aduana in the Ghana Premier League clash at the Golden City Park in Berekum.
Seeking redemption after a humiliating 5-0 defeat by Accra Lions over the weekend, Chelsea aimed to bounce back with a much-needed win.
Boadu implemented three changes to the lineup following the previous weekend's thrashing, with Collins Ameyaw stepping in for experienced defender Ahmed Adams, while Stephen Amankona and Flavien Kouassi Kongoza replaced Augustine Henneh and Prince Anane, respectively.
Meanwhile, Aduana made three adjustments of their own, with Kelvin Obeng, Iddrisu Shaibu, and Raymond Agyemang taking the places of absentees Bright Adjei, Alex Boakye, and Anderson Fiifi Asamoah.
Amankona, back in the starting lineup for Chelsea, proved to be the difference-maker as he converted a penalty in the first half to secure the victory for his team.
With this win, Chelsea ascended to the third spot on the league standings with 33 points from 21 matches, trailing the top spot by five points.
Despite the defeat, Aduana retained their second position in the standings, level on points with Chelsea but holding a superior goal difference.
