Asante Kotoko bounced back from last weekend’s Premier League draw to beat Legon Cities 2-0 at Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

Stephen Mukwala and Mohammed Nurudeen Yussif both scored first-half goals against a wasteful Cities side that failed to convert any of their 52 attempts on goal, registering just three on target.

Despite Cities best efforts to make the net ripple, the Porcupine stood firm to secure their eighth clean sheet of the season as well as their 17th Premier League win over the Royals since 2007 – inking down a record for the most wins for one club over another in the division’s history.

Although victory for Prosper Ogum’s side moves them to the 9th place in the Premier League table, hopes of securing a CAF Champions League spot looks bleak as it looks impossible for them to clinch the league title.

As for Legon Cities, they have  extended their winless numbers to 12 games, and Paa Kwesi Fabin’s men – for the time being – slew downwards to 11th in the table, six points above the relegation zone.

Asante Kotoko continued to probe in the final third and push for a late goal, but Cities backline admirably stood firm to help the most-criticized hosts collect three important points - three weeks after their disappointing 2-0 loss to booted-out Confederation Cup campaigners - Dreams FC.
