Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford said there was “still a lot to play for” in the Ghana Premier League title race, despite being 5 points behind leaders Asante Kotoko.
The Dzie Woa Nu outfit's title charge suffered another blow when the Kpando side failed to claim victory over Bibiani Gold Stars, who stunned them 2-1 at Dun's Park.
Bashir Hayford had been increasingly questioned over the past few weeks about whether his side were still capable of winning the Ghana Premier League title despite the gap between them and leaders Kotoko widening to 5 points after the last round of fixtures.
The experienced coach said they would not throw in the towel until it was mathematically impossible.
“We have about ten matches left, which means 30 points are up for grabs,” Bashir said in a post-match conference. “It can make a difference. If someone is leading with five points, and we have 30 points to contend with, we shouldn’t relax and say they are leading.”
“It is not over. We will keep fighting and see what we can do,” he added.
Heart of Lions will aim to rebound when they welcome Asante Kotoko to the Kpando Stadium on Sunday, April 6.
