Asante Kotoko have officially announced the appointment of Hamza Obeng as the club’s new assistant coach, while also handing him the role of head coach of the Young Porcupines, the club's youth development side.

Obeng has signed a two-year contract and joins the Porcupine Warriors from Vision FC, where he recently made headlines by guiding the club to their maiden promotion to the Ghana Premier League.

The former Hearts of Oak assistant coach brings a wealth of experience, having played a key role in Hearts’ domestic dominance under Samuel Boadu. Together, the pair led the Phobians to a historic Ghana Premier League and MTN FA Cup double in 2021, before adding another FA Cup crown in 2022.

Kotoko, currently under the interim stewardship of Karim Zito, believe Obeng’s proven track record at both senior and youth levels makes him an ideal addition to the technical setup.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Hamza Obeng Mohammed as assistant coach for the senior team and head coach for the Young Porcupines for two years,” the club confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.

The appointment is part of the club’s broader restructuring efforts aimed at rebuilding both the first team and the youth system following an underwhelming 2024/25 league campaign.

Kotoko are set to wrap up their season with a crucial showdown in the MTN FA Cup final against Golden Kick this Sunday, where they hope to end the campaign on a high.
