Former Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has openly admitted his disappointment after the club reassigned him from his role as head coach to that of a technical advisor.

At the end of the 2024/25 football season, the hierarchy of the Ghanaian giants opted to restructure the technical leadership of the first team, a decision that ultimately brought Ouattara’s tenure on the bench to an end.

In an official statement released in June 2025, Hearts of Oak confirmed that Ouattara had been reassigned to work directly with the Board of Directors as a technical advisor, following the appointment of Mas-Ud Didi Dramani as the club’s new head coach.

“As a special advisor, Ouattara will be working directly with the Board of Directors on special assignments and duties,” the club stated at the time.

Speaking in an interview with Top FM on January 8, the Ivorian tactician opened up about his emotions upon receiving the news that he would no longer lead the Phobians from the dugout.

Ouattara revealed that the decision was particularly painful because he had already mapped out a clear vision and structure for the team ahead of the new season.

“I felt disappointed after I was informed to perform the role of the technical advisor because I had a template to put to reality as the head coach,” he said.

Despite the setback, Ouattara remains part of the club’s technical setup, although his comments underline the personal frustration of seeing his long-term plans cut short at one of Ghana’s most storied clubs.
