Black Stars assistant coach, George Boateng says he expects other teams to challenge Asante Kotoko for the Ghana Premier League (GPL) this season.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) launched the 2022/23 GPL season last week.

The GPL will start this weekend, from 9th to 11th of this month.

Asante Kotoko won the GPL last season after eight years without the coveted trophy.

Asante Kotoko will not play this weekend because of their CAF Champions League clash with Rail Club du Kadiogo.

George Boateng recently resigned from Aston Villa to focus on his role as the assistant coach of the Black Stars.

Boateng expects a tougher competition for the Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko this season.

"Kotoko won it last year so, I'm expecting other teams to challenge Kotoko," he said.

"I think what will be very important this season as the the President( Kurt Okraku) touched on is better Officiating of the games. So better referees that will help the game, we can get better pitches that will also help a lot," he added.
