Peter Acquah Amidu's first half goal was enough for Asante Kotoko to inflict a narrow 1-0 win over Bibiani Goldstars to get back on winning ways in an epic Ghana Premier League week 19 tie.
The visitors started on an explosive note and definitely had a mindset of getting an early goal. A corner kick awarded in the opening minutes but the delivery was checked by the Kotoko backline.
Quick response from the homesters on the 11th minute after Justice Blay dinked in a nice once to Kalo Ouattara who sent a powerful hit but only resulted in a side net.
Kotoko subsequently settled down and were on top in terms of possession whiles Goldstars were much more focused on goal having mounted pressure on their hosts in the last ten minutes.
That wasn't enough as Kotoko opened the scoring account just on the stroke of half time through Peter Acquah Amidu who scored from a close range.
In the second half, another explosive return from the Miners as Adu Kwabena came so close to scoring but his effort was denied hugely by Frederick Asare.
Both teams kept on attacking each other from all angles leaving an even exchange at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Steven Mukwala came so close to doubling the lead with a towering header from Kalo Ouattara's cross but was parried away by Yaw Osei.
It ended 1-0 for Asante Kotoko after 90+7 seven minutes, who clinch their first win in the second round.
