Hearts of Oak exhibited a stellar performance to humble Medeama SC by an emphatic 3-1 at the Ohene Gyan Stadium in match-day 8 of the 2023/24 GPL season.
The 'Phobians' started well and broke the deadlock in just six minutes from kickoff through an own goal from Medeama SC goalie Appiah Kubi- who failed to handle well Ibrahim Salifu's corner kick with the ball rolling into the net.
Just two minutes on, a great team build-up fell on the path of Martin Karikari who went in for a goal but his effort was too feeble to go past the visitors goalie.
On the 16th minute, youngster Hamza Issah mounted so much pressure on Kofi Asmah and got the better off him in a challenge and struck with a one-time hit into the net to double the lead for the 'Phobians'- leaving the Accra fans in complete raptures.
Quick response from the champions who pulled one back just four minutes later through Godknows Dzakpasu who connected with a towering header from Kamaradini Mamudu's cross from the right.
The Rainbow Club restored their two-goal lead fourteen minutes later, after creating a break from Medeama's poorly taken free kick with the final pass falling on Hamza Issah who scored again to complete his brace and the hosts third in the game.
In the second half, Medeama SC came with a different approach this time and took the under their total control in the opening twenty minutes.
The home team decided to stay much in their zone with the mindset of preserving their precious lead.
Kofi Asmah on the 66th minute, came so close to reducing the deficit for Medeama but his brave header from Kwadwo Amoako's cross was wide.
Both sides lifted the ante in the last fifteen minutes and made series of incursions and fired from all cylinders but all proved futile as the scoreline remained 3-1 till full time.
Hearts of Oak finally have halted their four-game winless run with this precious victory and will hope to continue with this momentum in their subsequent matches.
