Karela United labored to show quality and depth in their first game of the 2022/23 betPawa Premier League on Sunday afternoon as they stunned newbies Tamale City by a lone goal.

The home side scored a perfect start to the young PL season with a narrow victory over visiting Tamale City at the Crosby Awuah Memorial stadium on Sunday as Aiyinase residents got the chance to see their darling Pride and Passion in action.

Coach Bismark Kobby-Mensah's side started well with an entertaining freaky flow of football display but were unable to take advantage early in the game as they failed to find the target upfront.

Samuel Attah Kumi, however,  got his first Premier League goal this season, lashing confidently into the net that flew past goalie Pongo Agbeko to give the home side the lead in the 54th minute that ended up being the match winner.

The win leaves Karela sixth with three points whilst Tamale City are bottom (18th) with no point.

Karela will travel to Accra Sports stadium to test their resilience on the road against Accra Lions whilst Tamale City will try to bounce back at home against Legon Cities, all on match day 2.
