Real Tamale United (RTU) have moved to the top of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season after drubbing Accra Lions in the nation's capital on Friday afternoon.
Accra Lions succumbed to a 3-1 home defeat to RTU to extend their winless streak in the ongoing season to four matches after six league games.
Real Tamale United inflicted the painful home defeat on Lions to hand them a third straight defeat in this campaign at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Captain Baba Kushibo capitalized on a defensive errors from Mohammed Ali to open the floodgate for Real Tamale in the 6th minute of the game.
The visitors compounded the woes of Accra Lions by scoring the second goal through Mohammed Mankuyeli in the 15th minute when goalkeeper Daniel Afful failed to deal with a back pass from Ali.
Accra Lions regrouped in the remaining minutes of the first half with the hopes of reducing the deficit but their efforts proved futile as it ended 2-0 lead for RTU into the break.
In the second half, Accra Lions returned from the tunnel with a different approach which gave them a goal before the hour-mark.
In the 57th minute, newly-signed defender Abdul Rahman Ali pulled one back for Accra Lions but Abdul Aziz restored the two-goal lead for Real Tamale United by registering his name on the score sheet in the 68th minute of the game.
Accra Lions made several attempts in the remaining minutes of the game but none of their efforts earned them a goal as it ended 3-1 win for Real Tamale United at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The victory sends Accra Lions to the summit with 10 points after six matches.
