Asante Kotoko captain Musah Hamzata was named Man of the Match after scoring the equaliser in the Porcupine Warriors’ 1-1 draw against Medeama SC in the Ghana Premier League.

The 23-year-old lasted the entire duration and rescued a point for Kotoko with a headed goal in the 56th minute after Sufian Usman had given Medeama the lead just before half-time.

Reflecting on his performances, the lanky center-back explained that his struggles last season were partly due to missing pre-season preparations.

“I wouldn’t say things had changed. It was because I didn’t have a pre-season last year. That’s why it affected my performance,” Hamzata said.

He also revealed that his equalising goal came from a routine the team had worked on during training, while crediting the technical team for helping the players respond after the break.

“My goal was practiced at training. We trained on that and it worked, that’s why I came to the coach after scoring,” he added.

“In first half, we allowed them to play but we bounced back stronger thanks to our coach’s advice. It is a worry that our strikers are not scoring so we wish to improve on that as well.”

Musah Hamzata will hope to start their next game against Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park
