Asante Kotoko striker Steven Desse Mukwala has expressed his desire to outperform his previous season's performance in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

The Ugandan international, who joined the Porcupine Warriors in August 2022, had an impressive debut season, scoring 11 goals in 31 games in the domestic top-flight league.

In total, the 24-year-old contributed 13 goals and provided 5 assists across various competitions during the 2022/23 season. Despite his individual achievements, Kotoko failed to defend the league title.

When asked about his goals for the current season during a pre-match conference, Mukwala stated, “Basically, my target for the season is to perform better than I did last season. I will do my best to become good”

Despite Kotoko's slow start to the campaign, Mukwala remains confident in his team's abilities.

The record Ghana Premier League champions began the season with a goalless draw at home against Heart of Lions before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Bibiani Goldstars in their second fixture.

“We have started on a small note but I believe with the technical team, we shall come good. As the coach said, it’s a process” he said at the pre-match conference.

Asante Kotoko is set to host Karela United in their third-week fixture of the Ghana Premier League.
