Ghanaian powerhouse Hearts of Oak have announced the appointment of former Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Kingson as the club's new goalkeepers' coach as the Phobians continue their rebuilding process ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The appointment comes as Hearts seek to revive their fortunes following two successive trophyless campaigns, with the club already naming Serbian tactician Nebojsa Kapor as head coach.
The Phobians announced the return of the Ghana legend on Monday, describing his appointment as a homecoming.
The club's official statement reads: "A legend returns. From guarding the post to grooming the next generation. Welcome home, Richard Kingson, our new Goalkeepers' Coach."
Although Kingson featured for Hearts of Oak's fiercest rivals during his playing career, he has maintained a strong relationship with the Phobians and was delighted to accept the coaching role.
The 47-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the technical team after an illustrious playing career that saw him earn more than 90 caps for Ghana and represent the Black Stars at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups. He was instrumental in Ghana's historic run to the quarter-finals in South Africa and also featured in several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
At club level, Kingson enjoyed spells in Turkey, Sweden, England and Cyprus, establishing himself as one of Ghana's most accomplished goalkeepers.
He will now work alongside Kapor as Hearts of Oak aim to rebuild a competitive squad capable of returning to the top of Ghanaian football after back-to-back disappointing seasons.
