Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak have announced the appointment of Dutch tactician Martin Koopman as the club's new head coach.

Koopman has been unveiled by the Capital based club as the head coach of the first team ahead of the 2023/24 season's campaign.

The 67-year-old trainer, who has been unattached since 2021 after leaving his role at the senior national team of Maldives, replaces Serbian gaffer Slavsko Matic.

Matic left Hearts of Oak before the end of the 2022/23 season after being chased out of the club's training facility at Kpobiman by the supporters following a poor run of results in the league.

Koopman has rich experience in coaching previously worked with several clubs in Europe including Roda JC, Go Ahead Eagles, SC Cambuur and Saudi Arabian side Al Nasr.

He will be welcomed to the Ghanaian football this weekend against Great Olympics in the 2023 Homowo Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium on August 20.

Koopman will take charge of his first competitive match as the head coach of the Rainbow club when they travel to the Aliu Mahama Stadium to face Real Tamale United in their 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season opener.
