Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has tipped the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season to be one of the most exciting in recent years as the campaign kicks off this weekend.
The curtain-raiser takes place tonight at the Accra Sports Stadium, where giants Hearts of Oak will lock horns with newly promoted Hohoe United. The high-profile fixture is set to attract notable attention, with former President John Dramani Mahama expected to be in attendance.
Defending champions Bibiani Goldstars will begin their title defense on Saturday with a tough test against Bechem United in what promises to be one of the standout clashes of the opening weekend.
Speaking in an interview ahead of the kickoff, Agyemang Badu pointed to several factors that, in his view, will add spice to this season’s competition.
“The Ghana Premier League will be interesting this season. A lot of things have changed, particularly the coaches, incentives for the clubs, and the prize money for the winner. There are new coaches in the league, and we will be watching closely to see how they perform with their various clubs,” he said.
Bibiani Goldstars stunned the football fraternity last season by dethroning Samartex to claim their maiden league title, and expectations are high to see whether they can defend their crown amid stronger competition and increased financial rewards.
