Former defender and captain of Asante Kotoko SC, Abdul Ismail Ganiyu has clarified his decision to depart from the club.

He explained that he sought a new challenge after spending numerous years in Kumasi, but he stressed that he had no issues with the club and simply wanted to move forward.

Ganiyu requested that the club's supporters forgive him without revealing any further information about the situation.

He expressed his eagerness to collaborate with the club again and dismissed any rumors about his departure as false.

“I wanted to face a new challenge but I don’t have a problem with Asante Kotoko. I just want to move on to a new challenge. I never had a problem with Kotoko,” the centre-back told Ghanasportspage.com.

Abdul Ismail Ganiu continued, “The fans of the club should forgive me because I can’t disclose all the issues. We can’t destroy the club. They should forgive me because we can still work together again. There’s no truth about whatever they said concerning my departure. I don’t have a problem with the club but they should forgive me because of how I left.”

Ganiyu has since played for several other clubs, including Al-Talaba, Baba Boys, and currently TP Mazembe, since leaving Asante Kotoko at the conclusion of the 2020/2021 football season.
