Gold Stars goalkeeper Emmanuel Kobi has expressed confidence as his side prepares to battle Asante Kotoko in the 2025 Champion of Champions showdown on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
The highly anticipated fixture, officially scheduled by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), will serve as the curtain-raiser for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
Speaking to GFA Media, Kobi insisted that the league champions are unfazed by Kotoko’s stature and are determined to add another trophy to their cabinet.
“The moment we lifted the Ghana Premier League title, it meant we are not scared of any team in the country, whether they are on form or not. We are ready to face Kotoko and we must win that trophy as well,” Kobi said.
The one-off contest, played under Article 9 of the Premier League Regulations, pits league winners Gold Stars against MTN FA Cup holders Kotoko, with both sides eyeing early-season bragging rights and silverware.
Gold Stars head into the clash on the back of their historic maiden league triumph and their recent success in the GHALCA Top 4 tournament, while Kotoko sealed their spot by lifting the FA Cup to extend their decorated history.
The Champion of Champions match has traditionally offered a glimpse of the intensity fans can expect in the new campaign. Last year, FC Samartex edged Nsoatreman FC 1-0 in Tarkwa to claim the 2024 edition.
