Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil has revealed that the club will use the upcoming GHALCA Top Four tournament as a springboard for their 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
The Porcupine Warriors, winners of last season’s FA Cup, will feature in the Top Four alongside rivals Hearts of Oak, Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Goldstars, and Heart of Lions. The competition kicks off on August 20 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, O’Neil emphasized its importance in preparing for continental football.
“The Top Four is a very big competition with a lot of history. We are using it to prepare for the Africa campaign,” the Kotoko skipper said.
Kotoko are making a return to African club competitions for the first time since 2022, and will begin their Confederation Cup journey against Nigerian side Kwara United. The first leg is scheduled between September 19–21 in Kumasi, with the reverse fixture set for September 26–28 in Ilorin.
Should the Porcupine Warriors progress, they will face a stern test against Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the second preliminary round. The first leg is slated for October 17–19, with the decisive return game taking place between October 24–26.
Kotoko’s ambition is to replicate and possibly surpass Dreams FC’s fairytale run to the semi-finals two seasons ago under coach Abdul Karim Zito. With a squad blending experience and youthful talent, the Kumasi-based side is determined to make a significant impact on the continental stage.
